According to Online Athens, a 15-month-old child from Athens-Clark County died on Saturday after testing positive for drugs.  The Athens-Clarke County police are investigating the incident.

Originally, the child was taken to a hospital in the Athens area on Saturday morning.  At this point, no law enforcement was involved.  Later, the child was transferred to Augusta, where she died.

Officials at Children’s Hospital of Georgia reached out to the police to report the results.  The child had been exposed to drugs, including fentanyl, opiates, and Benzodiazepine.

The investigation is ongoing into how the child was exposed and had access to the drugs.  She was being cared for by a 65-year-old woman who was listed as the babysitter in the report.
