Do you go Red Delicious first, Granny Smith, or Honeycrisp? In preparation for all the apple-picking days ahead in autumn, the Daily Meal published a list of the best orchards in America, and a Georgia location made the list.

Going to an apple orchard and grabbing the bag or bucket is a popular tradition in the fall season. Kids see how many apples they can squeeze in without spilling over, while parents wonder what number will pop up on the scale.

The 20 orchards highlighted here range from coast to coast. The apples grown at each destination may vary slightly, but the joyful experience does not. Furthermore, they offer the opportunity to make a full fall day of fun.

“Among the corn mazes, hayrides, and wine tastings, you’ll find a lingering smell of freshly baked donuts and pies and plenty more activities to fill up your day at the farm,” Daily Meal says.

The Georgia farm that was named among the best orchards in the country is a great example of this. It also exemplifies a rich tradition and a history that dates back over 80 years.

Mercier Orchards

Located in Blue Ridge, Mercier Orchards is a fourth generation, family-owned operation. In addition to apples, they currently grow blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries. The experience at Mercier is broken into four options.

First, you can take a tractor ride and pick your own apples during the peak season. This can be done on select dates from 10 am-4 pm. If you’re hungry, you can swing by the bakery and candy kitchen onsite. There’s also a market where you shop for vegetables and fruits (including seven different kinds of apples). Lastly, this Georgia farm that was named one of the best orchards in the country also has a winery. This is where you will find hard-pressed ciders and wines. Mercier offers tastings every day if you want to try all these flavors.
