Music News

Taylor Swift attends the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at the Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.

Attention all Swifties who have a background in writing: there is a perfect job currently posted for USA Today and The Tennessean seeking a uniquely skilled journalist. The publications posted the role of Taylor Swift Reporter, writing in the description that “Swift’s fanbase has grown to unprecedented heights, and so has the significance of her music and growing legacy. We are looking for an energetic writer, photographer and social media pro who can quench an undeniable thirst for all things Taylor Swift with a steady stream of content across multiple platforms.”

Taylor Swift’s Influence

The timing of the job posting follows a crazy successful year for the “Anti-Hero” singer, who recently released the “Taylor’s Version” of her Speak Now album and the October 2022 release of her tenth studio album, Midnights. The 33-year-old musician also just finished the US leg of her critically acclaimed Eras Tour, which has just gotten started. For fans who are unable to see her live in concert, Swift’s Eras Tour concert film will be playing in theaters nationwide. Tickets to see the film in AMC Theaters broke records for the company’s advance ticket sales, with $26 million already sold.

The job description for the Swift reporter continues: “Seeing both the facts and the fury, the Taylor Swift reporter will identify why the pop star’s influence only expands, what her fanbase stands for in pop culture, and the effect she has across the music and business worlds.” The energetic journalist they are looking for must be able to capture the excitement around Swift’s ongoing tour and upcoming album release of the new “Taylor’s Version” of 1989 while also providing thoughtful analysis of her music and career. This reporter will “chronicle the biggest moments on the next portions of Taylor Swift’s tour, offering readers of USA TODAY, The Tennessean, and more than 200 local news sources an inside view,” the job description continues. Since the reporter will cover the remaining Eras Tour shows, they must be able to travel internationally for the job. For more details about the job, click here.

Taylor Swift Dominated 2023 MTV VMAs: See The Winners List

Taylor Swift was the big winner at last night’s 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center. She won nine awards, one short of the record for a single show; according to Billboard, Peter Gabriel won ten awards at the VMAs in 1987. Swift now has 23 lifetime VMAs, second only to Beyonce (per Billboard). Swift’s first award of the night was Song of the Year. The award was presented to Swift by the reunited NSYNC.

Swift also won the night’s top prize, Video of the Year. She won that for “Anti-Hero.” It’s the second year in a row that she won that award. Last year she won the same award for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).”

Nicki Minaj “hosted” and performed. According to a source at MTV familiar with the awards show, no one can labeled as a “host” because of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In addition to Minaj’s emceeing duties, she also performed her newest single, “Last Time I Saw You,” for the very first time.

Awards and Performances

Sean “Diddy” Combs was honored with the Global Icon Award. It was the third-ever Global Icon Award, which MTV says “celebrates an artist or band whose unparalleled career and continued influence have achieved a unique level of global success in music and beyond.” Shakira received the Video Vanguard Award and also performed at the awards show for the first time since 2006. Other performers included Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Karol G, Kelsea Ballerini, Fall Out Boy, Måneskin, and K-Pop boy band Stray Kids.

The 39th annual awards show was broadcast simultaneously on VH1, MVT2, Comedy Central, CMT, BET, BET Her, Paramount Network, and Nickelodeon. Those who use streams can tune in live on DirecTV and Paramount+ apps.
