Could A New Film Studio In Augusta Make This The Next Hollywood?
Augusta may be following behind its state capital’s footsteps when it comes to the film industry. We know that Atlanta has a ton of movies shot there, but Augusta could be next up. Augusta could become the new home to a film studio! This was announced at the Georgia Unscripted Roadshow, which took place at the Hyatt House on September 22. The event brought together industry experts, business executives, government officials, and others to hear about Georgia’s growing film industry and how it impacts cities such as Augusta.
Georgia is already a really big landing spot for film because of the tax incentive. Adding Augusta to one of the those must-shoot places would be cool.
Film Studio Coming to Augusta
For a few years, there had been rumors of a film studio coming to Augusta. Film producer, Warren Ostergard, has removed all speculation and brought hope to those rumors.
Warren Ostergard is no stranger to the CSRA. He made a few films in Augusta including The Hill, The Royal, and Agent Game.
The Hill is currently out in theaters. It is the life story of Rickey Hill’s journey to play major league baseball. The movie was shot at the end of 2021. Baseball scenes were at Lake Olmstead Stadium, which hadn’t been used for about four years.
The Royal was filmed in Augusta back in 2019 and came to select theaters in July of 2022.
Agent Game was shot back in 2021 and released on streaming services.
Since shooting these movies, Ostergard knew he wasn’t done with Augusta just yet, but the current writers and actors strike put his eager work at a pause.
The studio is still in development, as he has been scanning the area for the best location. Ostergard hopes to begin filming his next project in Augusta in the first quarter of 2024.
One of the first films he wants to roll out from his new studio is a project based on a bestselling book with musical ties – no official name has been given.
