Costco Recalling Mattresses Due to Reports of Mold
Mattress manufacturer FXI has issued a voluntary recall of nearly 50,000 Novaform mattresses sold exclusively at Costco stores due to reports of mold in the products.
The recall includes the Novafoam ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch mattresses that were sold not only in the San Francisco Bay area, but also online between January and June of this year.
The recall notice says, “FXI has determined that a certain group of mattresses, manufactured at its San Bernardino, California facility sold through Costco may have been exposed to water during the manufacturing process. As a result, these mattresses may be damp or may have developed mold after being packaged for shipment.” Exposure to mold can pose a health risk to those with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or a mold allergy.
So far, FXI says it has received 541 reports of mold on the mattresses. No illnesses have been reported.
Customers who have purchased the recalled mattresses should check the attached law tag. If it was manufactured at a facility other than San Bernardino, it was not affected.
The recall includes mattresses with the following model/item numbers:
ComfortGrande 14″ Mattress:
- King 1413200
- California King 1413201
- Queen 1413202
- Full 1413203
- Twin 1413204
DreamAway 8″ Mattress:
- Twin 1698562

If you have one of the recalled products, FXI says you can receive a full refund or a replacement mattress. That includes free delivery of the new mattress, as well as pickup and disposal of the recalled mattress. You can expect the new mattress in 3 to 7 days.
