Columbia County Makes Progress In Bringing a Hospital To The Area
Richmond County houses all the major hospitals in the Augusta area, but not for long. Columbia County could be seeing a hospital come to the area very soon.
On October 19, funding was approved by the Columbia County Hospital Authority for a 100-bed hospital in the Grovetown area off of Exit 190.
There has been plans and hopes for a hospital to come to Columbia County for quite some time now. In 2014, Augusta University Medical Center (then called Georgia Regents Medical Center), University Hospital, and Doctors Hospital all filed Certificates of Need with the Georgia Department of Community Health, seeking approval to build a hospital in Columbia County.
With the recent merge of Augusta University Health System and Marietta-based Wellstar Health System, this provided financial comfort to solidify the deal for bringing a hospital in Columbia County. The hope for the partnership is to improve the quality and safety of community care for patients.
The purpose of bringing a Columbia County Campus is to meet the region’s growing needs.
Hospital Description
The hospital will be a 22-acre site with utility infrastructure, surface parking, and a helipad. The building itself is projected to be 240,000 square feet. There will be a Level 2 trauma emergency department.
Diagnostic services will happen in this location including imaging, labs, and more. The hospital will also include surgical services with operating rooms.
While they are planning to build the new 100-bed hospital, they are also projecting to build a new medical office building.
The new medical office will be a 92,000-square-foot building sitting on an 11-acre site. Very similar to the hospital, it has utility infrastructure and surface parking. The Medical office building will also be connected to the hospital.
The project’s sustainable approach to the environment was thought of with the consideration of the design and construction and something that would return value to the owner and the community.
