Best Buy Recalling Nearly One Million Pressure Cookers
Best Buy issued a recall Thursday for 930,000 Insignia multi-function pressure cookers due to the threat of severe burns.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the inner pots of the pressure cookers have “incorrect volume markings” inside of them, which could prompt consumers to overfill the pot.
“That could lead liquids to be ejected when the pressure cooker is vented using the quick release method or opened while its contents are pressurized,” according to the CPSC alert.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says it has received 31 reports of the pressure cookers ejecting their contents to date. At least 17 people were injured, some with second-degree or severe burns.
The six and eight-quart pressure cookers being recalled have model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9 AND NS-MC80SS9. The inner cooker pots have model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 AND NS-MCRP6SS and were sold separately as replacements.
The recalled Insignia multi-function pressure cookers were sold at Best Buy locations around the United States, and on its website as well as through Amazon. They were sold between October 2017 and June 2023.
Those who purchased the recalled pressure cookers should stop using them and contact Best Buy for a replacement of the inner pot and floating valve for signaling pressure.
A statement from Best Buy says, “Nothing is more important to us than our customers’ safety. We’re contacting customers who have purchased one of the impacted products to make sure they’re aware and have clear direction on getting the right replacement parts.”

This is the second recall involving pressure cookers in the last several month. In August, Sensio recalled 860,000 pressure cookers after more than 60 people were burned by contents that were ejected.
