Washington County High Alum Is Now A Gold Medal Olympian
Washington County can proudly say one of their own is a Gold Medal Olympian! Allisha Gray helped her team earn that gold medal in the 3-on-3 basketball at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Gray and her teammates, Stefanie Dolson, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young, gained an early lead against the Russian team and held on for the victory on Wednesday. Their 18-15 lead helped them secure that gold medal.
Allisha Gray was born in Greenwood, SC; but moved to Georgia later on and attended Washington County High School in Sandersville.
Gray has quite an extensive basketball career. While at Washington County, she ranked number 7 overall and number 4 guard in 2013. She’s also been a three-time 3A Player of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. She led her high school team to the 3A state title in 2011, and runner up for 2012.
After high school, she played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels and South Carolina Gamecocks. Then she was selected 4th overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2017 WNBA Draft, where she soon won the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award. She was named part of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team pool back in 2018. She has many accolades to her name, and now she has an Olympic Gold Medal on top of it!
We are so proud of Allisha! Way to represent Team USA and your hometown!
