Atlanta Braves Retiring Number 25
In a press release sent out today, the Atlanta Braves announced they are retiring number 25. This is the number that was worn by legendary Braves outfielder Andruw Jones. Jones will be honored at the official retirement ceremony on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Jones says, “It’s a great honor getting your number retired. You don’t think about things like that while you’re playing. You just play the game you love.”
He goes on to thank the Braves for the opportunity. And he adds what an honor it is to be the first person from Curacao to have his jersey retired. He hopes this will give other kids hope for their futures.
Jones is one of the most successful outfielders in Braves’ history. He signed with the team in 1993 as an amateur free agent. In 1996, he would make his Major League debut. At 19 years old, Jones became the youngest player to hit a home run in the World Series.
He would go on to win many awards throughout his career and was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2016.
