Courtney Love Slams Taylor Swift: She’s ‘Not Interesting’
Courtney Love seems to have “Bad Blood” with Taylor Swift. In a new interview with UK publication The Standard, the Hole frontwoman made her critical thoughts known about the pop icon.
Courtney Love Slams Taylor Swift
Love stated bluntly: “Taylor is not important. She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
Love, 59, further elaborated that she isn’t a fan of other pop artists, including the “Queen of Pop”: Madonna. She said both she and the “Popular” singer equally don’t like each other, without giving reason why. She gave Madge kudos for her role in the 1985 comedy thriller Desperately Seeking Susan, but “for the city of New York as much as her.”
Then, Love slammed one of Swift’s friends and collaborators, Lana Del Rey. Though Lana isn’t your typical mainstream pop, she recently made headlines for her recent Coachella set. Love harshly said of the “Video Games” singer: “I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off.” Unsure if Love meant in a physical sense or style of her music, she further explained that she thought highly of Lana before her recent “Take Me Home Country Roads” cover. But she’s clearly a Lana fan: she admitted to the publication that when she was recording her new album, she had to stop listening to Lana because her influence on her was that strong.
Strong Woman Tearing Women Down
When it comes to more current artists, Love gave a backhanded compliment to the “successful women” in the music industry, calling them a cliché. Though we have to agree with her sentiment about the influx of music out there, she states that “every successful woman is cloned.” It seems as though Love already had her thoughts to share from the start of her interview, with the publication’s opening paragraph quoting the rocker for being “completely disagreeable.” Swifties shouldn’t expect any apologies from Love after the interview, as she “always wanted to be known as a bitch. Being liked was never my thing.”
This isn’t the first time Love has come for a pop star half her age. In 2021, she accused Olivia Rodrigo of copying a Hole album cover. At the time, Love posted a photo of the then-18-year-old’s Sour Prom concert film promo on Instagram with the caption: “Spot the Difference! #twinning [wink emoji, queen emojis].”
Love was noting the similarities between the artwork and her 1994 Live Through This. Rodrigo acknowledged the similarities herself, commenting on Love’s post, “love u and live through this sooooo much.” To which Love boldly responded, “Olivia—you’re welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for deets! I look forward to reading your note!” She added more thoughts about how she found Rodrigo and her label “rude” for not asking her or her Hole album cover photographer for permission. She added, “It’s happened my whole career so I d c . But manners is manners !” At the time, folks called out Love for being “a 56yr old, picking a one sided fight with olivia rodrigo, a 18yr old, over a concept that wasn’t even hers to begin with while olivia just ignores her and doesn’t give af is ridiculous bye.”
