ESPN College GameDay to Air From The Masters
ESPN has announced that its flagship college football Saturday morning show, College GameDay, will be broadcasting from Augusta National and the Masters Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 14.
“Anytime College GameDay travels to a new destination it’s special, and the opportunity to be on the grounds of Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters is extraordinary,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, ESPN and Sports Content. “As this iconic event coincides with the college football season for the first time, we look forward to getting fans ready for a football Saturday, while also showcasing the Masters and the greatest golfers in the world.”
The show, which features previews of that day’s college football games, as well as interviews, predictions and other storytelling, will emanate from the Par 3 course at Augusta National, ESPN said in a release. Traditionally, the show is broadcast from a college campus site of a featured game that weekend, with college students and fans in the background cheering along. But with the impacts of COVID-19, the show has been doing virtual fans this year.
The show is hosted by Rece Davis, and features Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and the legendary Lee Corso. Corso is best known for his zany headgear predictions at the end of each show.
In the release, ESPN also pointed out it will have extended coverage of The Masters this year, with live play coverage on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12-13 from 1-5:30 p.m. They’ll also feature additional special coverage on ESPN+, their flagship online service.
The Masters was of course delayed from its traditional April date, because of the coronavirus.
“Given the circumstances brought about by the pandemic, the delivery of quality content is as important as ever to the storytelling of the Masters Tournament,” said Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club. “While we will dearly miss our patrons at Augusta National this fall, we are excited to showcase what promises to be a truly memorable Masters in a variety of ways for viewers around the world.”
