Augusta Apartment Fire Leaves Five Families Displaced
A fire late Thursday afternoon at Azalea Park Apartments off Fayetteville Drive in Augusta has left five families displaced.
Firefighters said heavy smoke was pouring from the windows in the building, that contains eight units, when they arrived. During a 360-degree assessment of the complex, firefighters spotted a resident attempting to jump from a second-story window. The trapped resident was rescued without incident.

Residents Evacuated Safely
Five families in the burning building were all evacuated safely, but officials say they are now displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross was notified and is now providing assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A statement from the Augusta Fire Department news release said, “In light of this incident, we’d like to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of fire safety. Please ensure your smoke detectors are in working order, have a fire escape plan, and know the emergency exits in your building. Safety awareness can make all the difference in critical situations.”
