How many times have you stopped by a convenience store for a bathroom break? This South Carolina man made a great decision and ends up winning the lottery! If only we could all have that kind of luck!
According to The State, while at the gas station, the man bought a lottery ticket, and WON!
First, he’s tried his luck with scratch-off tickets. And won $20. So what did he do with that? He went back into the store and bought another ticket. This one was worth $200,000, according to the S.C. Education Lottery.
The man said his heart dropped. “I jumped out of the car and threw the ticket on the store counter and asked them to scan it to be sure.”
And, it was real! The winner said it was hard to sleep that night, as we can only imagine. He declined to be publicly identified, but said he was shaking as he claimed the prize.
Now What?
After taxes, the man took home around $138,000, according to lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong. And it all came about because of a little change in routine. He said he normally stops at the store across the street, but it was busy after the Clemson game.
His winning ticket was won at the Xpress Fuel in Pendleton, near Clemson. He and his wife have bought a car, and are hoping to use some of the money to remodel their home. He said, “On a whim, I bought that ticket. Now we’re getting to do some stuff we’ve always wanted to do.”
Maybe changing up your routine can lead to some good luck, because this isn’t the only time that a random decision led to big wins! And at least he didn’t destroy his ticket in the laundry like this woman… Yikes!
