New Interactive Park Set to Come to Columbia County Area

Columbia County recently announced that Martinez Park/Blanchard Park will soon be home to an interactive playground. The playground will be inspired by nature and feature hand-painted designs of Georgia animals.

An exact date has not yet been released, but it has been said that it wont be open until a few more weeks.

The programs and events manager Janet Wheatley says via Facebook:

“This new playground is going to be different from any other playground we have in Columbia County. Keep an eye on this page for pictures and updates.”

Update: Climbing structures are now up. There is also paint on the playground, giving it that realistic nature look.

They are looking to have kids be able to play on the park by November 1st.

When it comes to the best parks in the Augusta area, it can definitely be debatable! It all depends on what you’re looking for in a park.  Whether you’re looking for walking or running paths, playgrounds, water to kayak, or just a place to find some peace, you’re sure to find a great park in Augusta! We decided to do some research for you to help discover the area’s best parks for any adventure.

Warmer Days

Spring is here! We’ve had some great weather days already, with more on the way!  After being cooped up all winter, it’s refreshing to get outside, breathe the fresh air and move your body.

When it comes to the best parks in Augusta, we looked at Yelp to see which parks were highly rated.  Some of these are more for hiking, walking, running, and biking, while others have activities for the kids.  Each park around the CSRA is unique and special in its own way. Maybe you’ve visited these parks, or maybe you’re new to town and looking to explore!

Great Variety

Augusta has a lot of variety.  We are blessed to have a great combination of outdoor venues, combined with indoor activities like shopping, movie theaters, dining, museums and more.

One thing to remember when visiting some of these parks, they are home to wildlife, including alligators.  Please observe all of the park rules and don’t feed the wildlife.  And be respectful!  Clean up after yourselves, respect others visiting the park and leave it like you found it.

  • 10. Reed Creek Interpretive Center

    Address: 3820 Park Lane, Augusta, GA 30907

    This one is listed as good for kids. One review says their kids go for a weekly Nature Class.  They also host festivals.  Another review says the park is geared more toward children and families and is small in size.

    Sounds like a great place to explore the beautiful of nature and wildlife! This one came in at number 4 on the Trip Advisor list of Nature and Parks in Augusta.

  • 9. Riverview Park Activities Center

    Address: 100 Riverview Park Drive, North Augusta, SC

    Head right across the Savannah River and discover a great area for walking, running, biking and more with Riverview Park Activities Center.  It’s located right on the Greeneway too. It offers a playground and splash pad for the kids too.  The park area also features a disc golf course, tennis courts and baseball fields.  The activities center offers many great amenities for it’s members: basketball courts, racquetball, an indoor track, volleyball court, plus they have numerous programs, classes, camps and events.

  • 8. May Park

    Address: 622 4th Street, Augusta, GA 30901

    This park also features a community building with a gym and hosts various classes, programs and events.

    There’s a playground and picnic area, plus an outdoor walking track.

    You can reserve this area for a variety of things from wedding showers, birthday parties, and more.

  • 7. Evans Towne Center Park

    Address: 7016 Evans Town Center Boulevard, Evans, GA 30809

    Evans Towne Center Park has amenities for a variety of activities.  With playgrounds, splash pad, dog park and the pavilions, guests can spend many great days out here.

    It’s the home of Lady A Pavilion, which hosts many events and concerts through the year.

  • 6. Savannah Rapids Park

    Address: 3300 Evans To Locks Road, Martinez, GA 30907

    Reviews on this park point how many great views, with the canal trail and river.  It’s great for long distance biking, walking and running.  You can even get to downtown from the trail.

    There’s also a place to rent kayaks for a day of fun on the Canal!

  • 5. Pendleton King Bark Park

    Address: 1600 Troupe Street, Augusta, GA

    Open 8am-8pm

    As you can tell from the name, this is a dog park! It overs great shade for those hot days here in the south. Plus, there’s fun training equipment for your dog to play on, kiddie pools to cool off in and lots of seating around the park for you.

    But, it’s not just for the pups!  Pendleton King Park has a bird sanctuary, a variety of gardens, playgrounds, a disc golf course, nature trails and more.  Fun for the whole family, dogs included!

  • 4. Billie's Butterfly Garden

    Address: 133 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC

    Another park in North Augusta.  This is a small garden near the Bark Park in North Augusta. It’s conveniently located near the Greeneway. It’s a beautiful spot to stop and enjoy the many inhabitants- from frogs, spiders, bees, and of course, butterflies! It also boasts gorgeous flowers in season and has a unique, fun fountain.

  • 3. Memorial Gardens

    Address: 7022 Evans Town Center Boulevard, Evans, GA 30809

    This park is located right beside the Columbia County Library. A nice way to take a break if you’ve been studying or working all day.  It has a pond to loop around, with a playground for the kids too. There’s also a trail for walking or running.

    There’s also a pavilion for events and concerts.

  • 2. Brick Pond Park

    Address: 16-98 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC

    Located near SRP Park, Brick Pond Park is a gem in North Augusta.  Beautiful pathways to walk through trees and around the water.  You’ll spot a lot of great wildlife around this area, from birds, frogs, turtles… and even alligators!

  • 1. Augusta Canal Lake Olmstead Trailhead

    Address: Augusta Canal Historic Trail, Augusta, GA

    A great place to walk, run, bike or just enjoy the beauty.  You can also rent kayaks and bikes.  You have a variety of routes to take and explore. It’s a great place to check out with the family… and could take you a couple of weekends to see all the sights!

    As mentioned above, Augusta has a wide variety of parks to check out.  And obviously this list left out some other favorites.  Here are a couple of others to check out:

    • Phinizy Swamp Nature Park– 1858 Lock and Dam Road, Augusta, GA  Enjoy hours of endless trails and lots of wildlife and beautiful to explore!
    • Living History Park– 299 West Spring Grove Avenue, North Augusta, SC. When they host demonstrations here, it’s a lot of fun, and educational too!
    • Augusta Common– located in downtown Augusta between Broad and Reynolds Street.  A fun place for events, concerts and festivals.
