A Columbia County Elementary School is up for Georgia Tray of the Week
School lunches have come a long way! These plates, throughout the state of Georgia alone, look like they came from 5-star diners! Even much so, that the Georgia School of Nutrition has started a campaign called Georgia Tray of the Week.
One of the CSRA’s very own Elementary Schools is in the running this week. Euchee Creek Elementary in Columbia County is up for Georgia’s tray of the week!
The Georgia Tray of the Week Campaign is a meal promotional activity, that showcases consistency with school meals served in Georgia. They choose 5 schools for that particular week.
The way this campaign will be showcased to the public is through the Georgia School of Nutrition’s social media platforms.
To determine the winner, the social media community will be asked to pick their favorite tray. Whichever image has the most engagement, by Friday at 8:00 a.m., will be crowned as the Georgia Tray of the Week.
Euchee Creek Elementary’s tray that is up for the running consists of BBQ chicken, biscuits, collard greens, mashed potatoes, fresh apples, cookies, and milk. To go directly to the picture to vote, click here.
For a school to be included in the campaign, the tray must follow certain criteria.
1. Meet the USDA National School Breakfast or National School Lunch Patterns. This means each plate must show all components like fruit, vegetables, grains, meat/meat alternate, and Milk as applicable.
2. Must include a description of each meal item.
3. Indicate the location and date of service.
4. The plating of the items must be presentable in the photograph.
5. What is social media without hashtags? You must include the hashtags #FuelingGA and #GATrayoftheweek.
The other schools that were included this week were Mamie Lou Gross Elementary in Camden County, Carrollton Middle in Carrollton City, Cherokee Elementary in Polk County, Upson-Lee High in Thomaston-Upson Schools, and Tift County High in Tift County.
5 Physical Activities in Augusta That are Tailored Towards Homeschooled Kids to Keep Them Active
Are your kids homeschooled but you want a way for them to participate in art, P.E., music, and sports?
Sometimes with homeschooling, it’s easy to go through the regular academic work assignments and forget to put in that needed exercise. At most public schools, a full class is dedicated solely to some type of physical activity. Whether that is walking, dodgeball, running, etc.
Luckly, there are many CSRA activities that are geared towards kids who are homeschooled. This can easily accomplish the physical activity part of the day.
Kids must indulge in some physical activity for at least one hour every day. Implementing regular physical activities improves muscle strength and boosts endurance.
Establishing a consistent physical workout schedule during the homeschooling day doesn’t have to be difficult, especially with some of the ideas that are listed below. Physical activities can range from sports, a jog or bike ride around the neighborhood, etc.
For these classes listed below, most have a small number that are able to register for each class. Your kid will then be able to be in a small population setting. They will also have the opportunity for exercise lesson plans to be tailored to them. Not only does this activity have to stay during the school days, but your child may find interest in the activity and want to make it a part of their normal routine at home or a routine hobby.
Physical Activities for Homeschooled Kids in the CSRA
These community classes are also a great way for kids to get physical activities, when the parent or the homeschool instructor is not as physically active. It is also a chance for the kid to meet other kids in their age group. Which can be one of the experiences that may not happen as much since the child is homeschooled.
Check out these options below of upcoming community activities happening in Augusta that is tailored towards homeschooled kids.
See which they enjoy the best!
