White Ribbon Fall Fest In Augusta – Lung Cancer Awareness
On Saturday, November 11, 2023, the Georgia Cancer Center will host the White Ribbon Fall Fest in Augusta. This event will be at the Augusta Saturday Market, and will aim to raise awareness about lung cancer and celebrate the survivors. The event is free and will feature health information and screenings. It also includes boxed lunches, giveaways, and raffles.

Lung Cancer
Personally, lung cancer is a cause that I am passionate about. And the main reason is that my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer back in 2022. I am so thankful that he is still here with us today!
The way my dad was diagnosed is nothing short of a “God-thing.” He had been sick, and his doctor just happened to request a chest x-ray. That’s when she spotted something off in the x-ray. I can’t say thank you enough to that doctor who immediately took action to get him in with specialists to get additional scans and tests.
Ultimately, he wound up needing surgery. While he was initially being treated at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Newnan, Georgia, he came to Augusta for surgery. And that was another blessing, because I was able to be close by during his stay. The team at Cancer Treatment Center of America recommended the best surgeon, who they said had just recently transferred to Augusta. And my parents knew that was a sign.
By April, he was having surgery to remove the top lobe of his lung. The surgery went well, and he has been cancer free! He still goes to Newnan for routine follow ups and occasionally has some tests, scans, and has fluid drained. But overall, he is doing well.
Now, my dad was a smoker for MANY years, but hadn’t smoked in years before his diagnosis. But you see, that’s the thing, cancer doesn’t discriminate. Lung cancer doesn’t just affect those who have smoked.
