Two Of My Favorite Things Are Coming To North Augusta Soon
Last week, Palmetto Peach Development announced their plans for a new mixed-use project that will be developed at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Center Street. The new development is being called Beacon Bluff. And I’m excited, because this means two of my favorite things are coming even closer to home for me in North Augusta.
Beacon Bluff Development
This project will renovate the old skating rink, and add two new building. As part of this, there will be new apartments, restaurants, and other retailers.
The renovation of the skating rink has been ongoing for about a year now, and they plan to have it completed by spring 2024. This part of the project is called “The Rink.” There will be 3 businesses on the first floor, and four 2-bedroom apartments on the second floor.
The Rink already has two tenants locked in. And I was so excited to see that now I won’t have to go quite as far for two of my favorite things.
Fleet Feet
As someone who’s big into fitness and who runs quite a bit, I was so glad to see Fleet Feet bringing a location to North Augusta. This will be their second location (the other is on Furys Ferry in Augusta). Fleet Feet is locally owned by Michael McCauley and North Augusta City Councilwoman Jenafer McCauley.
With so many runs going on in North Augusta, this just feels like a no brainer! I know that Fleet Feet has been doing runs in North Augusta for a while. I’m glad to see them opening the new spot nearby.
And after the run… there will be a new spot to eat, with one of my favorite comfort foods…
Melty
Melty is a specialty grilled cheese eatery. I’d never heard of this franchise, but I’m intrigued. I just looked at their website and it says: “I’m only here for the cheese!” And I just have to say… SAME!
Also, looking at the website, their only locations previously are in Utah. But I am excited to have them come to this area, because who doesn’t love a great grilled cheese? And these are just your everyday grilled cheese sandwiches. They’ve got a four cheese classic, a melty burger, a BBQ brisket melt, and more. YUM!
As someone who lives in North Augusta, I am looking forward to this new space that’s bringing new businesses and more options for those of us on this side of the river. And I can’t wait to see what else Beacon Bluff will bring in!
Best Grilled Cheese In Augusta
Today is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! According to NationalDayCalendar.com, this day is celebrated on April 12th each year and spotlights a favorite comfort food for many! How could you possibly go wrong with bread and delicious, melty cheese? So, now we need to know where to get the best grilled cheese in Augusta!
The History Of A Grilled Cheese Sandwich
It seems the love for a combination of bread and cheese has been around for a while, according to food historians. They say it’s been enjoyed since ancient times! As for what we think of when it comes to a grilled cheese sandwich in the United States, that version originated in the 1920s.
During the 1920s, Americans had sliced bread and American cheese more easily available. They actually made open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches. Also, in US government cookbooks, Navy cooks broiled “American cheese filling sandwiches” during World War II.
According to a survey from YouGov, 97% of Americans have heard of a grilled cheese, and 83% like them. The grilled cheese also comes in at number 5 on the list of top American dishes.
Versatility
A grilled cheese sandwich is delicious! The warm bread with the melted cheese oozing with each bite is perfect on its own. But people often pair their sandwich with other things. Soup is a common companion to a grilled cheese.
Then there’s the cheese! These sandwiches can be made with many different kinds of cheeses. And some places even mix-and-match, putting 2 or more types of cheese together. But the sandwiches are most commonly made with American or cheddar cheese.
And of course, you can add to it! Personally, bacon makes a great addition to the sandwich. You could also add ham, for a hot ham and cheese sandwich. Some people also like to add tomato as well.
