Margot Robbie ‘Disappearing’ From Acting For a While
Margot Robbie attends the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' 14th Annual Governors Awards at The Ray Dolby Ballroom on January 09, 2024 in Hollywood, California.
Margot Robbie won’t be in any upcoming films any time soon. Following the major success of this summer’s blockbuster hit, Barbie, the Australian actress feels like everyone is “probably sick of the sight of me.” She told Deadline in a new interview on Wednesday (January 10) that she will be disappearing from the screens “for a while.” Robbie, 33, made her Hollywood breakthrough over a decade ago with 2013’s Wolf of Wall Street opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Since then, she has been highly sought-after in film roles and has since appeared in the DCEU as Harley Quinn and starred in the award-winning 2017 film I, Tonya. Robbie set up her own production company, LuckyChap a year after Wolf of Wall Street‘s success. The company has produced films Promising Young Woman and the most recent cheeky thriller, Saltburn.

However, after being inescapable on billboards across the globe, Robbie is painfully aware that the general public is probably sick of her gorgeous face. As a producer, she won’t get a break. But as an actress, it has already been over a year since she has acted on set. She wrapped up Barbie in October of 2022, and that has been her longest break since COVID-19. She is totally fine with not being seen so people won’t be over her. As for what she’s got cooking up next, Robbie is unsure but hopes “it’s a little while away.”
Behind the scenes, Margot has produced and now wants to direct — something she’s wanted to do for the last seven years. “But I’ve always seen it as a privilege, not a right,” she tells Deadline. To earn that privilege, she has been slowly working towards the feeling that she has earned the right to direct, and feels like she is “getting close to that feeling now.”
At the weekend’s Golden Globes, Barbie was awarded the inaugural Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, a category created to recognize films that garnered “extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence.” While it only took home one award out of its nine nominations, Barbie was the highest-grossing film of 2023 — both domestically and worldwide.

Margot, Ryan and More: The 5 Hottest 'Barbie' Red Carpet Looks
The cast of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie took a trip across the pond last night (July 12) for the European premiere in London. As always, the titular star, played by Margot Robbie, blessed us fashion lovers with more Barbie-inspired recreations. Her castmates have had a fantastic run so far as well, playing up the color schemes of the movie and pulling out all the fashion stops. With the commitment to fashion running this deep, we don’t ever want the press tours and premieres to ever end.
The film, which debuts in theaters on July 21, features an ensemble cast including Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Hari Nef, Simu Liu, and Ncuti Gatwa. The movie’s soundtrack is just as star-studded, featuring tracks from Charli XCX, Tame Impala, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Pinkpantheress, The Kid LAROI, and Haim. Billie Eilish is the latest artist to be added to the soundtrack with the single “What Was I Made For?” Billie wrote on Instagram that Gerwig showed her and her brother/producer Finneas a handful of unfinished scenes from the film. With no expectations, the Grammy winner said they were “so deeeeeply moved,” and the next day, they were writing almost the entire song.
