Two locations for the CSRA is a huge! We are continuing to just get a little bit of everything in the area.
A grilled cheese is a perfect quick snack to make at home for yourself or your kids. The crazy thing about it is I haven’t had a grilled cheese in years – I actually can not even remember the last time I had one.
I may have to do a home-cooked grilled cheese before I make my way to Melty, just so I can remember that original taste.

Today is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! According to NationalDayCalendar.com, this day is celebrated on April 12th each year and spotlights a favorite comfort food for many! How could you possibly go wrong with bread and delicious, melty cheese? So, now we need to know where to get the best grilled cheese in Augusta!
The History Of A Grilled Cheese Sandwich
It seems the love for a combination of bread and cheese has been around for a while, according to food historians. They say it’s been enjoyed since ancient times! As for what we think of when it comes to a grilled cheese sandwich in the United States, that version originated in the 1920s.
During the 1920s, Americans had sliced bread and American cheese more easily available. They actually made open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches. Also, in US government cookbooks, Navy cooks broiled “American cheese filling sandwiches” during World War II.
According to a survey from YouGov, 97% of Americans have heard of a grilled cheese, and 83% like them. The grilled cheese also comes in at number 5 on the list of top American dishes.
Versatility
A grilled cheese sandwich is delicious! The warm bread with the melted cheese oozing with each bite is perfect on its own. But people often pair their sandwich with other things. Soup is a common companion to a grilled cheese.
Then there’s the cheese! These sandwiches can be made with many different kinds of cheeses. And some places even mix-and-match, putting 2 or more types of cheese together. But the sandwiches are most commonly made with American or cheddar cheese.
And of course, you can add to it! Personally, bacon makes a great addition to the sandwich. You could also add ham, for a hot ham and cheese sandwich. Some people also like to add tomato as well.
