Have You Spotted These “New” Dollar General Locations Around Augusta
Being in the CSRA, have you ever thought to yourself “How many more Dollar Generals are they going to put in this city?” or something of that nature? Well, Joseph Johns of Geolina Photography has certainly had those thoughts – so much so that he decided to create some Dollar General parody locations around the CSRA – and the Facebook community has been enjoying it!
“I never expected this to reach as many people as it has,” Johns stated. The images above were posted two nights ago, on December 18, and has reached thousands of people. The location choices were overall kind of random.
We caught up with Joseph Johns, to tell us more about these viral images!
Tell us the back story of how these images came about. In other words, explain this to someone who may not “get it”!
“The Dollar General location parody is my sarcasm at work. People who know me personally will know I’m a very sarcastic person. And I see people all the time when [A] new Dollar General springs up they’re all upset cuz they’re like don’t we got enough Dollar Generals yet.”
Will you create more and if so, what locations do you think you will focus on next?
“I plan to create more. I got suggestions already like around Dean Bridge Road, and I may hit Regency Mall, too. I might also Photoshop one at a county jail. But I’m planning on focusing a little more on Aiken with the next outing like North Augusta and downtown Aiken. I think maybe the Hotel Aiken would be a perfect place to put the next Dollar General.”
How has the community been reacting to the images?
“As far as I’ve seen, the community loves it. I mean I’m getting mostly laughing emojis I haven’t seen any anger emojis at all it seems like people understand my sarcasm about Dollar General springing up everywhere. And when I heard Red Wing was [allegedly] closing, the first thing I thought of was uh oh there’s your next Dollar General and I’m telling you right now if that doesn’t end up becoming a Dollar General somehow I’m buying a lottery ticket.”
“I remember a lot of places that got ruined by government overreach and then some places I thought were ridiculously funny to put one and then the very last one [North Augusta Location] I called an eyesore was more of a personal disdain,” Johns said.
More about business Geolina Photography and Productions:
“Geolina was a name I switched to in 2018, in response to my real name Joseph Johns being too easily confused, mispronounced, or misspelled. It’s based on me living half my life in Georgia and South Carolina.
Over the years I had several awards and polishing for my work as a photographer and now I’m also getting into video documentaries which you can see some posts and teasers about across my Facebook and YouTube profiles.”
Johns has lived here in the CSRA his entire life. And at a point of time even worked at Dollar General off exit 5.
