Do you love old-fashioned ice cream shops? If so, Harlem has the best in all of Columbia County.  In the heart of Harlem, Georgia sits Main Street Treats.  It’s located at 170 N Louisville Street to be exact.  One trip in and you will feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.

Small towns across America used to have ice cream shops everywhere.  One of the oldest, that is still in business today is Bassetts Ice Cream in Philadelphia.  Bassetts opened in 1892   Lewis Dubois Bassett, the owner began making ice cream with a mule-powered butter churn in 1861 at home.  The shop is still open today and is run by his great-great grandsons.  It’s more of a tourist stop but locals also love the top two flavors of butter almond and mang0.

Main Street Treats Menu

Outside of an ice cream with a topping, there’s not much more you can get.  Milkshakes, floats, sundaes, brownie sundaes, banana splits, and ice cream nachos.  Pretty simple, but pretty dang good.

You can get a chocolate ice cream.  Maybe it’s vanilla you want, They have ya covered.  They also have some really good options.  On my recent visit, I went big time.  To me, there’s not a better combination than Peanut Butter and Chocolate.  I did a double scoop of Chocolate Peanut Butter Overload.  Let me tell you, it lived up to its name.

From red velvet cake to butter pecan, to the mint chip, they have ya covered.  So if you find yourself in Harlem, Georgia anytime soon, make it a point to stop by Main Street Treats.  It is locally owned and the staff is so warm and welcoming and are great with kids and you can sample any flavor you want.  They have diet-restriction ice creams and can help everyone’s sweet tooth.

In the shop are old pictures of Harlem and the history of the town.  Also in the shop, a picture of its favorite son, Ray Fulcher, with some guy named Luke and they were at some sort of football event.
